Hair transplant overview

Hair loss is an issue that is confronted by both men and women. Baldness or thinning hair influences others’ perceptions of you and perhaps more importantly affects your own attitude and self-confidence. Fortunately, today’s patients have numerous proven and effective options.

The evolution of hair restoration that has occurred over the last 25 years is staggering. We have proven and safe medical treatments that can stop or reverse hair loss in many patients and modern hair transplantation has advanced to the point that when performed well by the experienced team at the Follicle HT Clinic, the results can be both astonishing and undetectable.

Every patient that comes to Follicle HT has a comprehensive consultation with one of our board-certified surgeons. We assess factors including the current and anticipated hair loss patterns, the availability of donor hair, scalp laxity, and the characteristics and color of the hair and skin. Taking all of this as well as the patient’s wishes into account, can then provide a recommendation that makes sense for each individual.

While we have all seen the results of older hair transplant methods that use rows of coarse “hair plugs”, patients at Follicle HT can rest assured that the pluggy, and embarrassing results produced by older, outdated techniques are a thing of the past. For patients seeking hair restoration with us, modern follicular unit hair transplantation with microscopic graft preparation is considered to be the end refinement in hair restoration technique. Contemporary techniques are able to deliver results that are predictable and virtually undetectable. Often, patients’ hair stylists are not able to tell that a transplant has been performed.

At Follicle HT, we achieve completely natural looking results that are generally permanent by using exclusively single follicular unit grafts. Follicular units are obtained from the back and sides of the scalp using one of two techniques: FUE or FUT.

At Follicle HT, we offer the full range of hair restoration options. At this point, approximately 80% of our male patients elect to undergo FUE surgery but FUT can sometimes be the preferred option for certain patients, especially for females and men that have longer hair. The reasons for this are that with FUT surgery, only the area of hair that is harvested for transplant is trimmed, whereas FUE surgery requires shaving a much larger area at the back and sides of the scalp, which many women do not consider to be acceptable. Furthermore, those that wear their hair long in the back are less concerned about the issue of donor scar visibility because it will always be concealed by the hair above and below.

Our view at Follicle HT is that both FUE and FUT have advantages and disadvantages. We offer both techniques because we feel that it is important for a full service hair transplantation center to be prepared to offer care that is individualized to the needs of each patient.

Dr. Korman and Dr. Solomon’s ultimate goal is to achieve outstanding results for their patients. They will help you decide which specific techniques will yield the most appropriate balance of coverage, density and naturalness from your hair transplant.

Hair transplantation is performed as a day surgery procedure in our relaxed, state of the art, fully accredited outpatient clinic. Most patients do not even require an intravenous and with the skillful use of light sedation, local freezing and meticulous techniques, the vast majority of patients report little or no discomfort. Patients have a relaxing day spent listening to music or watching a movie as the procedure progresses.

The side effects of hair transplantation surgery are relatively minor and serious complications are extremely rare. Modern hair transplantation surgery is comfortable, predictable, and produces excellent results.

Hair transplant recovery & hair growth

The hair used in a follicular unit transplant is your own. It is not artificial and cannot be donated from another person. Modern hair transplantation involves taking hair from areas where there is a relative abundance, normally the permanent fringe at the back of the scalp, and delicately moving it to the areas where hair has thinned. Because the hair is your own, it will continue to grow naturally and can be washed, brushed, cut, colored and styled just like any naturally occurring hair. Modern techniques and instrumentation allow for the delivery of natural results with the hairline, density and coverage that are appropriate for each individual patient. In addition to the hairline, the temples and the bald spot, hair can also be transplanted to the moustache, beard, eyebrows and body.
