FUE vs. FUT: Which Hair Transplant Technique is Right for You?
At the Follicle HT Hair Transplant Clinic in Toronto, our board-certified surgeons, Dr. Mark Korman and Dr. Philip Solomon specialize in two advanced methods of hair restoration: FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation). This blog serves to help you understand each technique. During your consultation, choosing the right transplant procedure for your specific needs is a process that our surgeons will guide you through.
FUE Hair transplant
FUE is a minimally invasive procedure in which individual hair follicles are carefully extracted from the donor area one by one. For most patients, the donor area is along the back and sides of the head. Hair follicles from these areas are then transplanted into balding areas like the frontal hairline or top of the scalp.
FUE is an excellent option for patients who prefer short hairstyles. This is because extracting the hair follicles individually from the scalp leaves only tiny, virtually invisible, scars. Recovery time is shorter, and the results are uniform and natural-looking.
FUT Hair Transplant
FUT involves removing a small strip of hair-baring skin from the donor area. The donor area is along the back of the head for most patients. Hair follicles are then extracted from that hair-bearing strip (hence why FUT surgery is sometimes called the “strip” method) and transplanted into the areas to be restored.
FUT is ideal for patients requiring more grafts harvested in a single session. It may be the most suitable option for those with considerable hair loss. One thing to consider with FUT hair transplant is that it leaves a fine line in the donor area. If a bit longer, the surrounding hair can easily conceal this scar.
Choosing between FUE and FUT is a big decision, but with the expertise of our doctors, you will be able to make the right choice. Take the first step to regaining your confidence and getting the natural-looking hair you desire.
